Best Time to Visit Tadoba

Tadoba can be visited through the year, but what you see and how you travel changes sharply with the seasons. The right month depends on whether you prioritise comfortable weather, birdlife, lush scenery or the dry-season waterhole watching that many visitors associate with tiger sightings.

SeasonTypical monthsWhat to expect
WinterOctober to FebruaryPleasant days and cool mornings, green forest after the rains, and good conditions for birdwatching and photography. Mornings in open jeeps can be cold, so bring layers.
SummerMarch to MayHot and dry, with daytime temperatures that can climb well above 40 °C. Animals gather near remaining water, which many visitors find rewarding, but sightings are never guaranteed.
MonsoonJune to SeptemberHeavy rain, lush scenery and fewer visitors. Core zones close for the season; buffer zones may remain open, subject to conditions and official notices.

Planning tips

  • Book early for peak periods, because popular dates sell out. Safaris can be booked up to 120 days ahead.
  • Heat, cold and rain all affect comfort in an open jeep, so pack accordingly.
  • Combining core and buffer safaris spreads your chances across different habitats. See core vs buffer.
  • Tiger sightings are never guaranteed in any season.

Read the safari booking guide to see how permits work. They are issued by the Maharashtra Forest Department, subject to its rules and availability. Once you have a season in mind, see the suggested itineraries, safari gates and zones and where to stay.
