Safari permits for Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve are issued by the Maharashtra Forest Department, subject to its rules and availability. This guide explains the general process so you know what to expect, and how we can help you plan around it.
The short answer
- Who issues permits: the Maharashtra Forest Department, through its own online booking system.
- How far ahead: safaris can be booked up to 120 days in advance.
- Weekly closures: according to the forest department, core gates are closed on Tuesdays and buffer gates on Wednesdays.
- Last entry: two hours after the scheduled safari time.
- Our role: we help you choose zones, gates and dates, check availability and plan the rest of the trip. An enquiry does not reserve a permit.
How permits work
The forest department sets the rules, quotas and charges, and issues each safari permit through its own online booking system. Because rules and availability change by season and by official notice, we confirm current availability for your dates before you rely on any plan. Enquire about safari availability and we will come back with options.
Step by step
- Decide your dates and whether you want core zones, buffer zones or both. See core vs buffer.
- Check the weekly closures. According to the forest department, core gates are closed on Tuesdays and buffer gates on Wednesdays.
- Plan within the booking window. Safaris can be booked up to 120 days in advance. If your dates are seasonal, see the best time to visit Tadoba.
- Choose your safari: zone, gate and session. See safari gates and zones.
- Have traveller details ready for everyone in the group. Identity details are checked as the forest department requires.
- Send us your enquiry through Plan Your Safari and we will check availability and arrange the rest of your trip.
Last entry is two hours after the scheduled safari time.
What you pay for
The official safari cost has several components set by the forest department, such as an entry charge, vehicle charge and guide charge, and varies by zone and day of the week. Amounts are revised from time to time. These are separate from private costs such as accommodation, transfers, meals or a travel planner’s service fee. If anyone quotes a single package price, ask which part is the official permit fee. We show the two separately. To see how a full trip is put together, read about safari packages and where to stay.
Common booking questions
Who issues Tadoba safari permits?
The Maharashtra Forest Department. This website is an independent planning and information site operated by Incredible Tadoba™ and is not the permit-issuing authority.
How far in advance can I book a Tadoba safari?
Safaris can be booked up to 120 days in advance. Availability for popular dates and gates can be limited, so it helps to enquire early.
On which days are the Tadoba gates closed?
According to the forest department, core gates are closed on Tuesdays and buffer gates on Wednesdays. Check for official notices close to your travel dates, as closures can change.
Does sending an enquiry reserve my safari?
No. An enquiry does not reserve a permit. We check availability for your dates and come back with options, and permits remain subject to availability.
Can anyone guarantee a tiger sighting?
No. Sightings are never guaranteed. Good planning improves your chances by matching the right gates, season and number of safaris to your trip.
